Choosing a career in designing for kids

As recently as 10 years ago, people who wanted to attend college had to go to a bricks-and-mortar institution because online courses or satellite campuses were not readily available.

The advent of web-based learning and classes via the Internet has really changed how we view attending college or going to a school of higher learning. Now people who live in rural areas or areas that do not have a trade school or university can get a degree and enter the job market in less time than before.

If you have plans for higher learning, it could be of a different nature. Do you have a desire to make the inside of an office or business look more spiffy and beautiful than it already is? If so, then interior design might be what you wish to pursue.

According to the United States Department of Labor, interior designers can expect to make on average just over $46,000 a year with a bachelor’s degree. There are over 56,000 jobs now and that number will go up by over 10,000 in the next decade. The Labor Department also defines designers as those who make interior spaces functional for every type of building from offices to homes and restaurants.

It is not an easy job to get into when times are tough. Usually, most home and office renovations or designs take place when the economy performs well, because that is when new and existing home and business construction is at its highest. Once in the job, however, it can be easy to find work if you do the job the right way and please your clients.

If you are in an area where finding classes can be a problem, do not worry. There are places to look online for interior design colleges. The chances are very good one of these schools will offer courses you need to take to get you started in the right direction. If you can only go so far with courses before you need to consider a move or other alternatives, at least this will get you started.

If you find the right program, there is a chance you can go for a one-year or two-year degree that will at least get your feet wet and ready to take on the interior-design field. If you can afford to spend some time on the degree, then go after the entire four years of classes and have a ball doing it.

If you have a hankering for design or a desire to base a career off of design principles, this is a perfect job for you. The best part is it is never boring. You get to design different rooms and businesses without relying on a cookie-cutter operation. Each design looks different, and some are more challenging than others. That taxes the brain a little bit and puts your creative skills to work.

Take a look around. If you’re an indoor person and you have dreamed of ways to make your place nice, interior design might be the field to enter.
